Banging the buck

with 5 comments

I hate hate hate next-gen pricing. The only time i’ve paid $60 for a game was with Xenogears in 1998. Cept that was 1998 and the PS1. Things are different now. I know technology has its price, but your boy is not made of gold no matter how many times i state the contrary.

Luckily for me, when i jumped into the ring with the HD shenanigans, the game that hooked me by the gills was Virtua Tennis 3. I love the game and the videogame too, so i was pleasantly surprised to learn it was $50 brand new. Score one for me. Then, i see that the PlayStation Network has a buncha trailers and demos available for my favorite price. One of them being a Full Auto 2 demo that i can play online with up to 8 people at a time. Another ace down the line. But the end of my reluctance is near, somewhat, with the fall’s upcoming mega-games slated for PS3.

$500 PS3: get it while it’s there

with 5 comments

Now i feel slightly better about buying a PS3 weeks before the price shuffle.

According to everybody, Sony plans on clearing out their 60gb PS3 stock with the price drop to $499 rather than going ahead with the two-SKU’d view. Afterwards they’ll just push the 80gb bundle with Motorstorm for $600 as we’re used to. Sony’s looking kinda shady after this, but really it’s an opportunity for the fence sitters with sore asses to grab up the PS3 for 500 bones and with the Emotion Engine. There’s enough stock to satisfy demand amongst the hardcore, so if everyone in the know gets the $500 version Sony’s situation will be much rosier and smellier (like roses).

What i’m saying is the PS3 hypocrites — those waiting to buy one come a price drop — complaining about its price should shut the fuck up and put their money where the counter is. $500’s a lot, too, yes. But if they complain about this being a clearance sale, it’s presumably because they applauded what they thought was a price reduction earlier this week. If they liked it so much, they should head out and clear that stock. Even if they’re not ready to dive in to the next gen, they can wait. Those 60gb units aren’t depleting anytime soon. There are piles and piles, remember?

However, i’m right there with ya when we’re talking about Sony’s market penetration overall. $600… kinda pricey.
